Ammonite book by Swirlything Ammonite book by Swirlything
So yeah, another book... 6 x 4 inch notebook, an experiment to see how well a drawing would work on the cover.

The image is in markers on parchment. The cord bookmark thing looks like it has a load of ugly knots at the end in these awful mobile phone photos, but it's actually a cluster of nice brown pebbles. Meh.

A couple of people mentioned wanting to see how these things are put together, so I have a series of progress photos here [link] if you're interested.

REALLY need to learn more binding techniques.

I'd love to buy one of these! How much would you like for one? It'd make a great gift for my friend that is an ammonite collector that loves to sketch.

Now I want to do a book binding course.

I think I do it in the second year, but If I get half as good at it as you are I'll be very happy with myself.

Great bookmaking. :)
I am starting a short bookmaking studio concentration in my class. What kind of bindings do you typically use? Maybe I can be of assistance. :)

couldn't tell that they were pebbles before reading, but kinda prefered that they were "ugly" knots. kinda cool, and naturalistic to me that way xD. good job, it's really pretty.

Thanks for showing how this was made, I have learned something new and I want to make one of these myself. So I better fav this so I don't loose that link ^,^
You making this sort of thing is making me rethink my decision of not going to University. So instead of trying for college next year I may save up for Uni instead and spend the year planning what to do.
Thank you for some more inspiration.

very nice. i'm going to go look over that 'how to make it' thing you've got, too. i wanted to take a book binding course in college, but of course my supervisor made me take only classes that would fill requirements, and i had already taken a printing class that gave equal credit. so, now i have something new to learn!

Ammonites are awesome! Actually the coloring (and the natural pattern of it) remind me faintly of that old swirly pattern you'd see on boxes and things from the 60s and 70s.. well, ones my grandparents had, anyway! I'm not one to buy fancy notebooks (too practical) but this one would be seriously tempting.

It's mainly the ammonite, though xD
